The duration of the Route, for example, from Athens airport to Hermionida, a large area of the Peloponnese, located opposite Spetses and Hydra, is usually 2 hours and 45 minutes. The area of Ermionida includes the coastal tourist locations, Porto Cheli, Ermioni, Agios Emilianos and Kranidi in the interior of the area.
Porto Cheli is located in a beautiful natural and sheltered cove, at the beginning of the Argolida bay, opposite Spetses.
Porto Cheli is one of the most popular beach tourist destinations in the Peloponnese and has a highly developed tourist infrastructure, with modern hotel facilities.
It is particularly suitable for hosting sea vessels, as its port is sheltered from the weather and has a very good infrastructure, as well as a large capacity.
Porto Cheli is built next to the ruins of the ancient state of Alia, which was located on the southeast side of the current port. Opposite the settlement are the ruins of the half-submerged city of Alia. The city of the ancient Alia was one of the largest centers of purple production in antiquity.
The name Alieis for the area changed over time to Halieis, later to Cheli and then to Porto Cheli due to its location which was a port.
Portions of defensive walls that have been found in and out of the sea have been described as wonderful examples of classical fortification art. Also preserved is part of the Acropolis of the Fishermen, which is estimated to have been built around 436 BC.
Very close to Porto Cheli are wonderful sandy beaches, on most of which the pine trees reach down to the sea. Apart from the long beach that exists after the port, in Porto Cheli there are Golden Coast, Costa, Ververonda, Pefkakia, Korakia, Hinitsa, Limanakia, Petrothalassa, Kounoupi, etc.
On the Hermione side, there is the lagoon of Berberonda, whose waters are considered healing and according to tradition it was the refuge of the Berber pirates.
Finally, at a distance of 4 km from Porto Cheli is Costa, a beach with a small harbor from which one can go to Spetses by water taxi, by boat or by ferry boat.
Porto Cheli is one of the most cosmopolitan holiday spots in Greece and has earned the nickname "The Riviera of Greece".
Continuing from Porto Heli and shortly after Costa, begins the enchanting area of Agios Emilianos with the pine trees in its small creeks, reaching to the sandy beaches and the sea.
The area owes its name to the Church of Agios Emilianos, located at the edge of the "Kolyergia" cape of the area.
The area is green and full of small and large coves, with picturesque beaches that have greenish-blue crystal clear waters.
Ermioni is built amphitheatrically on the eastern slope of a pine-covered hill, with houses that have a panoramic view of the area and the sea, on the coast of south-eastern Argolis.
It stands out for its picturesqueness and the intense island color given to it by its natural beauty, its wonderful beaches, the picturesque harbors (mandrakia), the characteristic cobbled streets and its folk architecture with its whitewashed courtyards and all-white houses with blue and blue shutters.
Historical attractions of Ermioni are the Temple of the Taxiarches, Metropolis of Ermioni, the House in which the 3rd National Assembly of the Greeks began, the Old Community Store, the Barracks and the Kapodistrian School, which are built on the ancient wall of the 4th century and are examples of traditional architecture.
On the Bisti peninsula there are the ruins of the temples of Athena and Poseidon, as well as a section of the Cyclopean walls, while on the southeast side of the current City Hall, a large early Christian three-aisled Royal Church was discovered, with great mosaic floors.
Wonderful beaches with green-blue waters and idyllic shores characterize Ermioni and attract more and more visitors from Greece and all over the world every year.
Maderi, a sandy beach in the town of Ermioni, Kuverta, a sandy beach at the bottom of a beautiful cove, 8 km south of Ermioni, the pebbly beach of Petrothalassa on the border with Porto Heli, Lepitsa in the coastal village of Koilada, a beautiful sandy beach and Dardiza, which combines small pebbles and sand, 4 kilometers from Ermioni, are some of the beaches of Ermioni that are flooded every year by local and foreign visitors.
Finally, the attractions that exist on the Hermione peninsula offer moments of relaxation to visitors and fill their vacation days.
One of them is the Monastery of Saints Anargyro, built in the 14th century, on the ruins of the ancient temple of Asclepios, at a distance of 3 kilometers from Ermioni, with wonderful frescoes of the Cretan school of the 17th century, historical Byzantine icons and a rich library with from 1800 rare theological, historical, philological and legal books. In the Monastery you will admire exhibits from old times and its famous thermal springs.
Another attraction is the Neoclassical House of the Treasurer, in which the 3rd National Assembly of the Greeks began in 1827. Today it has been turned into a historical and folklore museum, which is worth visiting and seeing in the garden of the house the busts of the Mitsai fighters of 1821.
You must also visit the mythic gorge, Katafyki, which connects Ermioni with the picturesque village of Fournoi and has been designated as an "Area of outstanding natural beauty and wildlife refuge". It is located about 5 kilometers northwest of Ermioni and is full of lush vegetation and running water. At the exit of the gorge from the Ermioni side, there is the small church of Agios Nikolaos, built in 1740, which is a preserved monument of post-Byzantine times.
Kranidi is built amphitheatrically on the hills of Agia Anna and Bardounia.
Kranidi was for one year, in the period 1823 - 1824, the seat of the Government and the Executive Body.
At the time of the Turkish occupation, it maintained a status of semi-independence and constituted a great naval power, for that time.
Kranidi is characterized by an idiosyncratic traditional architecture, which makes the houses seem island-like.
Until 1850 the "Farm houses" of Kranidi were single-story and later two-story, very poor, most of them built with bricks, one next to the other, without streets and squares. Between them they were crossed by small very narrow streets, the "rukize" as they were called, in which a person could just pass.
After 1850, the so-called "Captain's houses" slowly began to be built, stone-built, made with better materials and hewn stone, more squared, with larger surfaces, with frames around the windows and on the doors, with elaborate balconies and neoclassical cornices.
Later, after 1925, the "Commercial" buildings began to be built, which were a little lower than the Captain's buildings, with a smaller surface area, in which they made sure that there was always a large storage space and a shop that faced the street, with the characteristic skylights above from doors and windows.
Today, the part of the settlement located in Kato Kranidi preserves almost entirely the traditional architecture of the place. Its special image, in addition to the local architectural features of the Town Hall and the library, is completed by the well of the Tower, the three renovated windmills, the traditional liotrivia with large stones as well as its many chapels. Finally, Kranidi was designated the capital of the province of Ermionidos in 1841 and is the birthplace of Em. Repoulis, a close associate and vice president of the Venizelos Government.
Its important and well-known product is Kranidi Olive Oil, for this reason every November the Olive and Olive Oil Festival takes place.
